Lido Wallhausen
A sustainable building with boathouse character
The building as such is oriented to the historical pile dwellings with a boathouse character typical of the region around Lake Constance. The aim was to construct the entire building shell, from roof to façade, using ecological and sustainable materials so that the lido would fit in with the directly adjacent nature reserve.
Construction details and support structure from WIEHAG
The timber construction develops upwards from a base level of reinforced concrete that is partly in contact with the ground, via a load-bearing structure visible on the inside in the form of differentiated room sequences. The elegantly formulated timber framework in the restaurant area, which develops over an air space up to the skylight as the highest point, generates a church-like and, above all, identity-creating atmosphere in the dining area.
On the outside, the use of silver-grey patinised oak shingles on the wall and roof surfaces underlines the consistent architectural approach in combination with exemplary handling and use of timber as a building material.
