The Mill

The Queenstown Sports Performance Hub, also known as The Mill, is a state-of-the-art centre for sports, rehabilitation, and healthcare. As the largest private sports facility of its kind in New Zealand, The Mill offers visitors over 2,500 m² of top-tier training and recovery options in a unique setting.
The innovative architecture blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The use of mass timber emphasizes the commitment to sustainable, eco-friendly, and health-promoting construction.
Task

Design and Sustainability
in Unison

The Mill combines health and sustainability in a groundbreaking concept. The Sports Performance Hub focuses on passive ventilation, maximizing natural daylight, and CO₂-efficient construction.

WIEHAG was responsible for creating the 3D model and manufacturing 250 m³ of laminated timber, including beams and supports for the roof structure.

Implementation

A Model of Sporting Excellence in Queenstown

The timber structure of the innovative building was manufactured at WIEHAG's facility in Altheim and transported in 8 containers over a period of approximately 70 days from Europe to New Zealand. The Queenstown Sports Performance Hub serves as a model for sporting excellence and sustainable design.
