A SUSTAINABLE BUILDING
As a sustainable building in passive house standard, the existing former Telekom building was extended by a new building arranged perpendicular to it and a 2nd floor was added. The existing building was additionally refurbished in terms of energy efficiency. All new additions are made of timber frame construction with a view to special sustainability. The building's electricity needs can be largely covered by the PV system on the roofs. The entire facility was constructed as a two-storey, partly three-storey timber building.
The 2,000 m2 roof area, consisting of 4 components, was constructed as a flat pitched monopitch roof hall with conically cut element ribs with a height of up to 88 cm. All roof and wall components were prefabricated as elements in the factory. A special challenge was the connection of the roof elements to the solid walls, parapet formations and component transitions, which were already defined in the planning phase with all the necessary details.
The columns were constructed as glulam columns. Approx. 150 m3 of glulam was used in the entire project. Approx. 1,500 m2 of cross laminated timber ceilings were installed for the intermediate ceiling areas. Steel lattice girders were also used to support the intermediate cross-laminated timber ceilings and to install a gallery in the transition area between the extension and the new building. Inside, the timber construction has remained visible on the exterior walls and ceilings of all offices as well as in the entrance hall. This was not possible in the necessary corridors and staircases for fire protection reasons. The approx. 750 m2 façade of the new building was designed as a curtain-type wooden façade with horizontal larch strips. As a contrast, the façade of the existing extension was made with HPL façade panels.
