[Translate to Englisch:] WIEHAG Timber Construction im Atlassian Central
Australia

Atlassian Central
Sydney

In 2026, Sydney will unveil Atlassian Central – the world’s tallest hybrid timber commercial tower, co-owned by Atlassian and Dexus.
The remarkable structure of this 39-storey building heralds a new era in sustainable design and timber construction, constructed by Built, in a joint venture with Obayashi Corporation (BOJV).
Sustainability at the Core

Leading the Charge in Build-for-Climate Action

Atlassian Central’s design pushes the boundaries of smart and sustainable commercial buildings with ambitious sustainability targets. Revolutionary in its design and approach to temperature control, Sydney’s climate was the perfect fit for a façade photovoltaic (PV) system and hybrid mechanical and natural ventilation strategy. These active and passive engineering systems provide substantial energy reduction and coupled with the innovative use of WIEHAG’s solid timber structure enables the project to meet critical sustainability goals, including a 50% reduction in upfront embodied carbon in construction for substructure, superstructure, and facades, compared to a conventionally constructed tower. WIEHAG provided comprehensive sustainability reports and calculations that met the client’s stringent demands, positioning Atlassian Central as a benchmark globally for future hybrid timber construction endeavours.

Naturally Ventilated

Innovative Design and Sustainable Solutions

The innovative design of the exoskeleton plays a key role in supporting the hybrid timber structure at Atlassian Central, with seven timber habitats, incorporating naturally ventilated atrium “park space” to the north of each habitat to further reduce the project’s ecological footprint.
